Boroondara Cemetery is throwing open its gates after dark for a truly magical evening celebrating the Winter Solstice. Join us on Saturday 20 June, 6:00pm–10:00pm for the inaugural Firefly Winter Solstice Festival — a night of warmth, wonder and community in one of Boroondara's most unique and storied settings.
Themed around the enchanting image of fireflies and the idea of bringing your own light in the midst of winter, the festival is designed to be a joyful antidote to the season's longest night. The cemetery grounds will be transformed into a glowing, atmospheric wonderland, with light shows illuminating the historic landscape in a way that is both unexpected and unforgettable.
The evening will be packed with entertainment and activities for all ages, including live music, captivating puppet performances, and guided night tours through the grounds. Warm up with a cup of mulled wine by the fire, toast marshmallows under the winter sky, and enjoy a selection of food and drinks from our festival vendors. The night will culminate in a spectacular fireworks display to send everyone home with a smile.
Families, friends and curious visitors are all warmly welcome — and well-behaved pets are invited along too, provided they are kept on a lead.
Tickets go on sale 1 May, priced at just $10 per person or $20 for a family pass, making it an affordable night out for everyone. This is just the beginning — we hope to make the Firefly Festival a beloved annual tradition that grows bigger and brighter with each passing year.
